Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP)

There are 4 Primary Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP) and 3 Secondary Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP) within the SC911 District Boundaries.

The primary PSAP is the agency that answers the 9-1-1 call.  Here, the telecommunicator verifies or obtains the caller’s information, nature of the emergency, and any additional information as required by that agency. In most cases, the primary PSAP dispatches the appropriate emergency personnel based on the information received.

In some instances, the primary PSAP may transfer the call to a secondary PSAP to dispatch the appropriate personnel. Secondary PSAPs in SC911 include UT Health East Texas – EMS, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), and Tyler Junior College Police.
